Understanding IGST, CGST, and SGST (Inclusive):

Consider a dealer in Karnataka selling goods worth ₹50,000 to a dealer in Tamil Nadu at a GST rate of 18%. Since this transaction involves inter-state sales, it is subject to only IGST. Therefore, the dealer must charge ₹7,627.12 as IGST, with the total revenue being directed to the central government.

Now, if the same dealer sells goods worth ₹50,000 within Karnataka at an 18% GST rate, this amount comprises 9% CGST and 9% SGST. In this scenario, the dealer must collect ₹3,813.56 as CGST and ₹3,813.56 as SGST. The revenue will be split equally between the central and state governments.

Understanding IGST, CGST, and SGST (Exclusive):

If we consider a dealer in Karnataka selling goods worth ₹50,000 to a dealer in Tamil Nadu at an 18% GST rate under Exclusive terms, the dealer charges ₹9,000 as IGST. Again, this revenue goes entirely to the central government.

For a sale within Karnataka at an 18% GST rate, comprising 9% CGST and 9% SGST for goods worth ₹50,000, the dealer collects ₹4,500 each for CGST and SGST—resulting in equal distributions to both the central and state governments.
